People often ask what it’s actually like to work together on a home. My process is intuitive, but it is not improvised. It begins with understanding, and it ends with a room that could only be yours.
It starts with you, and the space
Every project begins with an intuitive process of understanding the client and the nature of the space. That insight informs a distinctive vision, a point of view that then guides the entire design experience. Nothing begins as a blank slate; the first task is always to find what will ground the identity of the home.
A palette, then the pieces
From there, I define the overarching palette, character, color, texture, and form, and pair it with knowledgeable sourcing of materials and furnishings. I look for the accent pieces that deepen the character of a room and lend the whole a bespoke quality. The aim is rooms that delight on more than one level, and that feel tailored to how you actually live.
Balance, and the finishing
My work balances the serene with the dynamic, the sensual with the functional, and the traditional with the contemporary, the dual influences of Southern grace and cosmopolitan design. With effective communication, meticulous planning, well-informed sourcing, and close attention to detail, your shared vision comes to life in rooms that are faultlessly functional, enduringly beautiful, and personally satisfying.
If you’re ready to begin, I work as a Charleston interior designer and New York interior designer, and I’d love to hear about your project. You can also read more about my process.
