Charleston Interior Designer
Alexandra Howard is a luxury interior designer based in Charleston, South Carolina, creating timeless, livable interiors for the city’s most distinctive homes. From historic single houses South of Broad to coastal retreats on the barrier islands, her work marries Southern grace with cosmopolitan polish — interiors of exquisite craftsmanship, distinctive character, and a seamless marriage of architecture and design.
Interior Design Rooted in Historic Charleston
Few cities have architecture as storied as Charleston’s, and few designers understand it as intimately. Alexandra designs interiors that honor the character of the Lowcountry’s historic homes — in South of Broad, Harleston Village, the French Quarter, Ansonborough, and along the Battery — while bringing a fresh, personal point of view to every room. Original detail is treated with reverence; the layers added around it feel current, comfortable, and unmistakably tailored to the family who lives there. The result is a Charleston home that respects its provenance without ever feeling like a museum.
An Aesthetic of Southern Grace and Cosmopolitan Polish
Alexandra’s love of design was born in Charleston, where she spent her early years immersed in the city’s historic architecture and elegant rooms. Training in New York at Parsons The New School for Design was followed by positions at several AD100 interior design firms, where she honed an aesthetic that is at once timeless, refined, romantic, and contemporary. In 2017 she launched Alexandra Howard, Inc. Her own Harleston Village residence was featured on the cover of Luxe Interiors + Design, and her work has appeared in Charleston Magazine, Southern Home, The Post & Courier, and the Rizzoli book The Allure of Charleston.
