This elegant and ornate Art Nouveau sterling silver flatware service for 12 was forged by the artisans at Gorham in the early 20th century. Gorham, which was founded in 1831 grew to be one of the United States’ most prestigious silver manufacturers and was repeatedly commissioned by the White House to produce important pieces throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. First sold in 1902, the “Lily” pattern features sinuous foliate forms created in an ironically Art Nouveau sensibility. The handle of each piece features intricately inscribed Lilies along with delicately scrolling arabesques and leaves.
